Tektronix TDS3012 Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope

The TDS3012 Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope (DPO) designed by Tektronix is one of the most economical, easy to transport DPO’s available, along with the rest of the TDS3000 series. The TDS3012 is ideal for design engineers and technicians handling complex signals. The TDS3000 series can assess, view, and save multiple facets of signal information: amplitude, time, and distribution of amplitude over time. The Tektronix TDS3012 has many amazing features, such as: 21 automatic measurements, an easily transportable quality, a quick update rate, a floppy disk drive that is built in, a VGA color LCD display screen with high resolution, many languages available for ease of use internationally, a prolonged video application module, and much more.

Another great feature of the TDS3012 DPO is that the user can change the application modules, depending on their needs. The TDS3012 is simple for the user to customize, with five application modules available. These modules are: an FFT module, a telecommunications mask test module, a 601 digital video module, an advanced trigger module, and an extended video module.

The Tektronix TDS3012 has a bandwidth capacity of 100 MHz, two channels, a record length of 10K points maximum, a vertical resolution of 9-bits, and a sample rate of 1.25 GS/s on every channel. Some of the automatic waveform measurements on the Tektronix TDS3012 include: Period, Fall Time, Rise Time, Cycle Mean, Mean, Amplitude, RMS, and Burst Width. As many as four measurements can be shown on the display screen at once.

Tektronix TDS3012 Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope- FAQ:

Question:

For the Tektronix TDS3012, what record length is the best to use?

Answer:

The 500 point or Fast Trigger is ideal for signals with modulation, a swiftly evolving shape, or a high trigger repetition rate. The 10K record length is ideal for signals characterized by a single shot, slow changing or stable, or ones with a lot of horizontal detail.

Question:

Can I operate my TDS3012 without connecting it to ground?

Answer:

Yes, if it is running on battery power, the TDS3012 can be floated to 30V RMS, without safety concerns.

Question:

If I have saved oscilloscope .wfm and .isf files on my TDS3012, how do I look at them on my PC?

Answer:

The .isf and .wfm is the nternal file format for the oscilloscope. If you use the Tektronix OpenChoice Desktop program, it might be able to open some of the files. If this does not work, the oscilloscope may not be supported by OpenChoice Desktop.

Question:

What are the dimensions of the Tektronix TDS3012?

Answer:

The TDS3012 is 14.8 x 6.9 x 5.9 inches.

Question:

What type of probes are used with the TDS3012?

Answer:

The TDS3012 comes with two P3010 10X passive probes.
